May Day Magic: Maypole Dancing at Wild Tots, Devon
At A Touch of the Wild Devon, every weekday is packed with woodland adventure, but this May, one of our Wild Tots sessions brought an extra sprinkle of springtime magic: a joyful Maypole dancing celebration right in the heart of the woods.
Our Wild Tots toddler group, which runs Monday to Friday, invites little explorers aged 1–5 (and their parents or carers) to experience the wonders of the outdoors through forest school-inspired activities. On this particular morning, the woods were alive with laughter and colour as the children took part in a cheerful May Day tradition, dancing and weaving ribbons around the trees, transforming the clearing into a rainbow of movement and joy.
Dancing into Spring 🌿
As the sun peeked through the fresh green leaves and the birds sang above, the children excitedly grabbed hold of the bright ribbons. Some twirled carefully, concentrating on their steps, while others spun with excitement, their giggles filling the woodland air. For many, it was their very first experience of Maypole dancing and the joy on their faces was simply unforgettable.Parents and carers joined in, clapping and smiling as the ribbons criss-crossed and wrapped tighter and tighter around the tree trunk. It was a beautiful way to mark the changing seasons, connect with nature, and create special memories together in the great outdoors.
