🎄Forest-Inspired Festive Crafts to Make at Home

As the festive season rolls in, it’s easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle, but here at A Touch of the Wild, we love to slow things down and enjoy a simpler, more nature-connected Christmas.

This December, why not bring a little woodland magic into your home with these forest-inspired crafts? They’re easy, eco-friendly, and a lovely way to create special moments with your children, no screens, no plastic, just imagination and a few treasures from the outdoors.

🍊 1. Dried Orange Slice Garlands

These look beautiful strung up across a window or tree, and they smell wonderfully Christmassy too.

What you’ll need:

  • 2-3 oranges, sliced thinly
  • Oven or air fryer
  • Twine or ribbon

How to do it:
Dry the orange slices in a low oven (around 100°C) for 2–3 hours, turning occasionally. Once cooled, thread onto twine with cinnamon sticks, bay leaves or wooden beads for extra charm.

🌲 2. Pine Cone Reindeer

A fun and festive craft perfect for little hands.

What you’ll need:

  • A pine cone
  • Brown pipe cleaners
  • Googly eyes
  • A red pom-pom or button for the nose

How to do it:
Twist the pipe cleaners into antler shapes and glue to the top of the pine cone. Add eyes and a red nose to make your very own Rudolph. You can hang them as tree decorations or use them for festive table settings!

⭐ 3. Stick Stars

Transform twigs into rustic decorations for your home or tree.

What you’ll need:

  • 5 straight sticks of similar length
  • Twine or string
  • Optional: white paint, glitter, or natural embellishments like leaves or berries

How to do it:
Arrange the sticks into a star shape and secure each point tightly with twine. Keep them natural or decorate with a dusting of white paint for a snowy effect.

🌿 Why Choose Natural Crafts?

Using natural materials is not only sustainable, it also encourages children to explore, notice the beauty in simple things, and develop a deeper connection to the world around them. These crafts are great conversation starters about nature, the seasons, and how we can celebrate without waste.
