Volunteer with us!

At the start of every season we recruit a number of volunteers to help us run our woodland activities and events. We need volunteers during weekends to help run our amazing Birthday Parties, during school holidays at our Woodland Adventure Club and sometimes during weekday term times too.

What will I be doing?

Volunteers will be supporting the Club leaders to deliver fun days in the woods at Haldon Forest Park, packed with opportunities to take part and learn some amazing skills. We need volunteers at weekends and weekdays (especially school holidays) between March and October. However, you don’t have to be available all these times and you can let us know on your application form when you are generally available. Sessions times vary from 3 or 4 hours for a Birthday Party to all day for our Holiday Club, but you’ll be kept busy.  You might be cooking up sausages for the kids at a Birthday Party, making crafts or building dens at Woodland Adventure Club, organising games, or bug hunts – the list is endless!

How will I benefit?

As well as being enormous fun, volunteering with us is a great way to gain experience of working with children in a Forest School environment and enhance your CV and job prospects. Some of our volunteers have completed their Forest School Training and now work for us as leaders. Others are completing a childcare qualification and have found the experience gained to be invaluable. In house training will be provided with opportunities to learn bushcraft, green woodwork, plant ID and many more skills. We’ll pay towards your travel expenses too. Once you have successfully completed the required number of sessions with us we will be able to provide you with a reference.

What experience do I need?

You must have some experience of working with children, be creative and able to help develop session ideas and activities suitable for KS1 and 2.  Of course, you’ll be friendly, enthusiastic and want to engage people, especially children, with the natural environment. Some knowledge of the Forest School ethos would be useful – a love of the great outdoors is essential! You must have your own transport and be willing to travel to Haldon Forest Park, near Exeter, where the sessions take place.

How to apply

If you would like to volunteer with us, here’s what to do:

1. We are taking applications now so email us at info@atouchofthewild.co.uk for an application form (sorry but we cannot accept applications by C.V.). If you want to you can also ring us for an informal chat on 07929 613284 (9am-2pm Mon – Fri)

2. Send back your completed application form as soon as possible and by 3rd March 2016.

3. We will consider your application and if we think that you have the right experience we will follow up references and ring you to chat through your application further. We will then invite you to come to our volunteer day on 23rd March so that we can show you the camp, find out a bit more about you and provide you with training. Please note: you will only be invited to our volunteer day if your application is successful.

4. Once you have completed the training session(s) we will arrange for you to have a DBS check so that you can start volunteering with us.
