What others have to say...

  • Love camp, mud kitchen, hot drinks! Popcorn is a winner! Loved finding teddies and making dens for them, love the freedom that they can wander round safely

  • We have loved the campfire activities especially popcorn and marshmallow toasting and the mud kitchen. The camp is really well set up. We’ve enjoyed campfire songs too.

  • Really enjoyed looking for wildlife, den building and free play in the kitchen with the mud.

  • Always enjoyed the sessions! My 18-month-old is too young for any of the activities but loves the balls, mud kitchen and swings. I enjoy the interaction with other parents.

What is wild tots?

Wild Tots is an outdoor Forest School toddler and pre school group based at Grammarcombe Woods, Ashcombe Estate, Near Exeter. Sessions are suitable for ages 0-5 and take place Mondays – Fridays. We are in the woods come rain or shine and can promise you a toddler group with a difference, where your child has the freedom to explore nature, learn new things and foster a lifelong love of the great outdoors while you get the chance for some great outdoor time with your toddler as well as a cuppa round the campfire and a chat with like minded mums and dads! Watch our Wild Tots on You Tube

What will we do?

Sessions will vary depending on the weather, the time of year and the wishes of the children; but to give you an idea a typical session might look something like this. It’s a short walk from the parking area to our camp, where your toddlers can explore the woods, help collect sticks for our campfire, take part in one of our Forest School activities, playing hide and seek, build dens  or get stuck into a craft activity. There’s a mud kitchen where we create our wonderful mud pies and more! No problem if it’s raining – our camp has a large covered area around the campfire. We know how to keep this age group interested, so the activities are quite short and we vary them each week. Each term is different too and we plan our activities according to the seasons and what is happening in the woods at that time. Our weekly cook-ups are very popular and with a different healthy snack each session, from apple pancakes to choccy bananas, they are often keen to try things that they may not usually like! There’s always time for hot chocolate and tea/coffee for the adults, followed by story time or a song to end the session. Please note: one or both parents (or carers/grandparents) are welcome and can swap or take turns to attend but at least one parent/carer must stay for the duration of the session. Babies in slings are welcome or you can bring a buggy, as it’s easy access to camp. Want a mum’s account? Visit exploring exeter and read local mum Stephanie Darkes’ great blog about Wild Tots….. but please note that we are no longer based at Haldon Forest Park.

Very Safe!

All staff are qualified group leaders, first aid trained and DBS checked. Wild Tots remain the responsibility of their parent throughout the sessions.
