DIY Autumn Leaf Lanterns: Nature-Inspired Craft for Kids
Autumn is the perfect time to get crafty with natural materials, and these DIY Autumn Leaf Lanterns are a simple yet stunning project that brings the beauty of nature indoors. Using colourful fallen leaves, kids can create beautiful lanterns to light up your home or garden.
What You’ll Need:
- A selection of colourful autumn leaves
- Clean glass jars (jam jars work great)
- PVA glue or Mod Podge
- A paintbrush
- Twine or raffia for decoration
- Small LED candles (for safety)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Collect the leaves: Head to your nearest woodland or park and gather a selection of vibrant autumn leaves. The more colours and shapes, the better!
- Prepare the jars: Clean the glass jars thoroughly, making sure they’re free from labels and residue.
- Glue the leaves: Using a paintbrush, apply a layer of glue or Mod Podge to the outside of the jar. Gently press the leaves onto the jar, layering them for a stained-glass effect. Seal them in place with another layer of glue over the top.
- Let them dry: Allow the lanterns to dry fully before adding any decorations.
- Add the finishing touches: Tie a piece of twine or raffia around the top of the jar for a rustic finish.
- Light them up: Place an LED candle inside and watch your lantern glow with the colours of autumn.
