Why Outdoor Play is Perfect in Late Winter & Early Spring

Many parents think of springtime as warm sunshine and blossoming flowers, but some of the most exciting moments in nature happen in the transition from winter to spring! Wild Tots sessions in late winter and early spring are a brilliant time for little ones to experience changing seasons first-hand, with plenty of adventure along the way.

Nature’s Big Wake-Up – Buds are appearing, birds are singing, and new life is starting to emerge all around us. It’s a great time to teach children about seasonal change and spark their curiosity about the world.

Puddle-Splashing Perfection – Winter rains leave the best puddles for jumping in and mud for digging, ideal for messy, sensory fun!

Cosy Campfires & Woodland Treats – There’s something truly special about gathering around a crackling fire on a chilly day, warming hands (and marshmallows!) while sharing stories.

Run, Climb & Explore – This is the perfect time for adventurous free play. Whether it’s balancing on logs, building dens, or spotting the first signs of wildlife, there’s always something exciting to discover.

What Happens at Wild Tots?

Every session is a little different, but here’s a taste of what you and your little one can look forward to:

Muddy Play & Sensory Fun – Get hands-on with nature, from splashing in puddles to feeling the textures of leaves, bark, and soil.

Campfire Cooking – Toast marshmallows, make simple stick bread, or sip a warm drink while soaking in the woodland atmosphere.

Nature Crafts & Creative Play – Make leaf crowns, twig mobiles, and other nature-inspired crafts to take home as special woodland keepsakes.

Wildlife Spotting & Seasonal Discoveries – Learn about the changing seasons by looking for signs of wildlife, like birds returning to nest.

Outdoor Free Play & Exploration – Climbing, balancing, jumping, and exploring, helping little ones develop confidence, independence, and resilience.

Each session is designed to be child-led, so your toddler can explore at their own pace while making friends and having fun. And don’t worry, parents and carers, you’ll love it just as much as they do!
