Meet the Wild Tots Team: Beccy
Our Autumn Wild Tots term has just begun, meet the fabulous team behind our Outdoor Toddler Group! They tell us what they love most about the woodland, and how it all began! This week we meet Beccy, who teaches Wild Tots on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings…
I am mostly involved with Wild Tots, but can be found helping out with birthday parties, holiday clubs and family days too! I have always loved the outdoors, I grew up mountain climbing and skiing in Switzerland. My first job was as a Sailing Instructor and this prompted me to do an Applied Marine Sports Science degree at Plymouth Uni. Since then I have gained a teaching qualification, and retrained as a childminder when I had my first baby.
I now have two boys, through which I first discovered A Touch of the Wild and the wonders of Forest School! The best part of working in the outdoors with young children is rediscovering the world through their eyes. In my spare time I love going camping with my family and friends, kayaking, cooking supper on the beach, and going to festivals
The forest school ethos really suits my normal approach to Early Years Education, and has extended and consolidated my ideas about child-led, holistic play. Working with the outdoors and young people means no two days are the same, which is part of its brilliance! My favourite woodland creature is the Squirrel, the woodland acrobat! My favourite woodland fauna is Billberries!
